What does the symbols (1-7) on plastics means?

It is the resin identification code, which denotes what type of resin the piece
is made from. Here are the seven (7) different types:

  1. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PETE), water/juice/soda bottles
  2. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE),
    milk/detergent/shampoo jugs
  3.  Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC),
    film packaging, rigid containers
  4. Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), grocery
    bags
  5. Polypropylene (PP), food
    containers/lids
  6. Polystyrene (PS), cups/to-go containers
  7. OTHER (mixed resins), containers, other plastic products
