The Fairbanks North Star Borough is ready for the Air Force’s EIS scoping meetings in our community on Wednesday and Thursday. The first of three meetings will take place on February 6. The first meeting will take place at noon at the Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge. The second meeting will begin at 6:00PM. In an effort to encourage public participation the Borough will be providing a free shuttle service from Pioneer Park to the Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge from 5:00PM to 9:00PM.
The buses will run a continuous route between the main entrance to Pioneer Park and the Princess Hotel during the scheduled meeting. Borough Mayor Luke Hopkins said, “We want to ensure that every person has an opportunity to share their opinion about this proposed move.” He went on to say, “We showed our solidarity during the 2005 BRAC, it’s time for us to do it one more time.”
The third scoping meeting will be on Thursday, February 7 at 6:00PM at the North Pole High School. Mayor Hopkins encourages residents to attend one of these scoping meetings. “It’s clear the Air Force is moving forward with plans for the EIS on moving the F16’s to South Central Alaska. We, as a community, need to show our support to keep this vital part of our economy here … where it belongs.”
